An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:
Secure and smart tilt: These features make uncontrolled tilting no longer an issue. I used to hang onto wheelchair push handles to make sure that when tilt was activated, the seated individual would not be “dropped” or jolted into tilt. Very scary when that happens!

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2017:
I love this product because it gives children the support they need to sit upright by themselves to play. What I have seen with children using this product is they are able to learn to sit upright sooner on their own if they have that ability, and children are able to become more independent with their play because parents don’t need to be right there supporting them. It gives parents a sense of progress, and a break to let their child play independently while they tend to other siblings or household activities.

TRU-Balance 3 Power Positioning
Consumer and clinician inspired, Quantum’s TRU-Balance 3 Power Positioning Systems combine complex rehab seating and ADL functionality. That includes 12" of iLevel seat elevation with Extra Stability Technology on the Q6 Edge 2.0 and Q6 Edge Z (and 10" elevation on the Q6 Edge HD). With modular tilt, recline, elevation and an articulating foot platform, TRU-Balance 3 offers easy tailoring of seat depth, width, back height, multi-axis armrests and center-of-gravity adjustment. With a 300-lb. weight capacity or a 450-lb. HD tilt version weight capacity.
Consumer feedback has led to an
enhancement to the popular iLevel
adjustable seat height technology
available on Quantum Rehab’s Q6 Edge
2.0 power wheelchair base. Starting May
1, iLevel will feature 12" of vertical lift,
which is 2" higher than previously available.
The additional height will elevate most
iLevel clients to between 5'6" and 5'8" to
be closer to average adult height, and is
expected therefore to further improve
environmental access. Extra Stability
Technology mechanically stabilizes the
Edge power base while its user is
elevated to enable the chair to be
driven over varied terrains at up
to 3.5 mph. Additionally, LED
headlights and taillights in the
fenders will now be standard
when iLevel is ordered to enhance
its user’s visibility outdoors.
Scallop Seating System
Already popular in
Europe, the Scallop
system is now
a flexible shell and
with Velcro to create
for children (GMFCS
levels 1 through 3)
on the floor or in a
chair. The Scallop’s
design provides stability without inhibiting movement, and also offers
helpful tactile stimulation. The system includes a colorful, reversible
cushion; two straps; a belt; and a seat pit. It’s available in four sizes,
with maximum user weights of 33 lbs. through 154.3 lbs. When not in
use, the Scallop folds up into an easily carried tote bag thanks to two

Automatic Head & Backrest/Seatbelt Anchorage
A new hand-controlled adjustment
feature allows wheelchair
users to travel in greater
comfort and safety in automotive
vehicles. The system has the
ability to customize head, back
and neck adjustments, and the
device’s patented design meets
all applicable regulations —
it can withstand 15G rear and
20G frontal collision forces.
This anchorage is compatible
with AMF-Bruns restraint systems, can be turned inward toward the
vehicle wall to save space when the vehicle doesn’t have a wheelchair
passenger, and can be either side or floor mounted. The system is
also easy to install, move and clean.
Permobil fans might have seen this
coming when the manufacturer’s
front-wheel-drive F3 and F5 power
bases launched last year, and at the
International Seating Symposium in
March, the company made its new
mid-wheel-drive power base official.
The M3 has some familiar characteristics
to those who know the F3/F5
series, but the new arrival has plenty
more to boast about. Consider the
added stability via a unique suspension
geometry and linear spring design,
plus a patent-pending FlexLink suspension
for advanced vibration reduction. These additions enable the M3 to
achieve full suspension at any seat elevation (up to 12" of elevation available
as an option). When the seat is elevated, the seating system moves
rearward 3.5" to optimize the M3’s stability — and the M3 can drive up
to 3.2 mph at that 12" elevated height. The Corpus seating system also
offers 0-50° posterior tilt and options of 5°, 10° or 20° of anterior tilt to
promote what Permobil is calling the Active Reach positions that can
facilitate activities and transfers. The M3 Corpus has a 300-lb. weight
capacity, a maximum speed of 6 mph, seat-to-floor heights starting at
17.5", and 85-120° (manual) or 85-180° (power) recline.
