An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2017:

Set-up friendly for ATP/therapists with a lot of growth potential to meet the needs of the kiddo.

— Kathy Fallon, ATP, Kennebec Pharmacy & Home Care

I love this product because it provides a way for my clients to stand with hips in abduction, and to work in prone as well as upright. By working in prone, I have been able to help kids become stronger that don’t enjoy being prone on the floor — helping them make motoric changes much faster because they enjoy prone in their standers so the parents will use it more. I also love that I can order this product for my little ones as early as 9 months and know that it will grow to 44” or about kindergarten to second grade, depending on their size. As a therapist, I feel good about ordering a quality product that will grow for that many years!

— Mary Miles, PT, DPT, ATP, White Bear Lake B-2 early intervention

Stander allows for easy supine transfer. Once positioned, the client can be raised upright and even into prone position without changing or replacing parts. Easy to adjust for positioning and growth. Best part are the colorful positioning component covers.

TEK RMD

TEK RMD

The latest introduction (at press time) to Numotion’s online store is the TEK RMD (for “robotic mobilization device”) from Matia Robotics. Numotion, TEK’s exclusive American distributor, describes it as a motorized standing movement device for manual wheelchair users, who can transfer into and operate the TEK independently thanks to its design. Boarding the TEK is done from the back of the device, and it uses a gas spring mechanism to balance the weight of the user. The TEK could draw comparisons in various ways to a patient lift, a standing frame and a manual wheelchair. But in function and operation (it drives via a joystick), TEK has unique qualities, including a smaller footprint than a traditional standing frame, and a smaller turning footprint and a more upright stance than a traditional standing wheelchair, which could make it easier for TEK users to reach and engage in various activities while standing. A remote control enables users to independently bring the TEK to them and send it away.

Kaye Products

Dynamic S3 & DS4

Dynamic S3 & DS4

Designed for clients who do not develop adequate balance, weight shift or postural control to stand or walk unaided, Kaye’s dynamic multi-positional standers allow 360° of movement within the base support while the client is standing. The excursion of movement of the stander is adjusted via a spring-loaded crank, and range of movement can be increased as clients develop confidence. Resistance to movement can also be adjusted so clients can work on postural control. The standers enable clients to experience natural weight shifts that occur when reaching or performing self-care activities. The tray comes standard.

Jenx Monkey Prone Stander

Jenx Monkey Prone Stander

An early-intervention favorite, the Jenx Monkey prone stander allows for a smooth progression from a comfortable prone-on-elbows position into an upright standing position, all in one session. The Monkey — which recently underwent an aesthetics upgrade — can accommodate young children from 9 months to 4 years old, and is designed for little ones with good head control who will benefit from standing. Tool-free adjustments make it easy for caregivers to adjust positioning supports as the child grows, and the Monkey’s compact footprint fits right into school or home.

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:

This stander is great with the early intervention population. It is easy to put the child into it in supine and then in one movement, without having to move hardware, tray, etc., you can go into prone. This makes it easier to place the child into the stander. Also, it is the only stander this small that has the ability to abduct each hip up to 30°. As hip abduction has been shown to be protective for hip dislocation risk, this is a real plus!

— Lauren E. Rosen, PT, MPT, MSMS, ATP/SMS, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2015:

EasyStand has always led the industry when it comes to separate standing devices. Not only is the EasyStand Zing MPS a great-looking stander…it offers so much flexibility that many users will be able to benefit from its fantastic, well-thought-out features. One of my favorite things about this stander is that it allows the client to stand in up to 30° of hip abduction, which is supported in the research to promote hip alignment, stability and health. All adjustments are unilateral and can accommodate asymmetries in the client’s lower-extremity range of motion as well. This stander can also be used as a supine, upright or prone stander without any cumbersome and time-consuming adjustment to the stander. It is an ideal solution for small children who need to stand for health and function, as the size 1 unit can support children from infancy up to 44” and 70 lbs. Way to go, EasyStand…this stander is a slam dunk!

Prime Engineering

SuperStand

SuperStand

This versatile standing system works as a prone, supine or upright stander without the need to purchase additional parts. Just change from headrest to chin support, and reverse the tray. Superstand grows 22" in height without additional parts, and positioning options — such as footplate and knee block assembly — can be quickly adjusted without needing tools. Supine grows from 26" to 48", and prone grows from 30" to 50". The system accommodates clients from 26" to 50" tall. Body pads are soft and supportive, and hip/chest systems have width-adjustable hip guides/lateral pads with a choice of 90° brackets, 1" offset or 2" offset. Order any combination to suit your client.

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:

Now you can use a stander for a person with knee flexion contractures while preserving hip range of motion. The new knee contracture brackets from Prime Engineering can be added to any SuperStand stander. Traditional sit-to-stand devices link the amount of hip and knee flexion so that you cannot bend one joint without bending the other. This new system allows for full adjustments on all planes and can accommodate severe asymmetries.

Mini Standy DJ

Mini Standy DJ

Here’s a stander that kids can really rock! The Ormesa Mini Standy DJ combines the many clinical, cognitive and social benefits of standing with engaging music generated by an audio device under the stander’s platform. As the child is in the stander, he/she hears the music and feels the music’s vibrations through the stander’s supports, platform and table. More entertainment can mean more time spent standing! The Mini Standy DJ comes in three sizes for kids from 29" to 59" tall.
