Easy Set hardware on the Matrx Elite Back makes it quick to install and allows for adjustments to be made while the user remains seated in the wheelchair. Lateral supports provide optimal trunk support while still allowing clearance for shoulders and hips. An optional headrest adapter plate mounts directly onto the back, which features a lightweight, stylish shell. The Matrx Elite has removable and adjustable lumbo-sacral support for a custom fit.
With integrated trunk wings that attach to a planar aluminum back support shell, the Acta-Embrace back support is adjustable for angle, height and a total of 3" of width (for standard wings; 1.5" for pediatric wings). Moldable stays create and maintain natural spinal curvatures, accommodate abnormal curvatures and allow for customization for changes in condition over time. The Acta-Embrace comes with integrated chest harness strap guides and is compatible with the BodiLink head support and lateral trunk support hardware.
While this may be first considered for clients who need customized seating, its features also make it a great match for active users and kids. The Custom back’s thin profile and lightweight design have little or no impact on seat depth, width or performance. Supplementary padding and reliefs can improve protection and comfort in needed areas. The infinitely adjustable FlexLoc wheelchair interface permits adjustment in every axis of movement, ensuring optimal balance and postural control. The Custom back can be modified for linear growth and weight change at a fraction of the cost of a new back.

The inner cover with Aquaguard zipper and anti-wicking thread protect the foam from fluids and is easy to clean. The backs’ widths and heights are sized specifically for kids from 2 to 15 years. A 12x12" Zip back weighs just 2.5 lbs. with mounting hardware.
An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2017:
I have been using the Acta-Relief back with my geriatric population in skilled nursing home facilities with phenomenal results. The back accommodates to the typical kyphotic posture of many of the geriatric population, provides adequate lateral support without laterals most of the time, and my customers find it comfortable. It satisfies the PT/OT positioning goals and satisfies the comfort requirements of my geriatric clients and their families. It is a win-win.

For an off-the-shelf back, it gives you the most adjustment for severe kyphosis, etc. It utilizes “Boa” technology. I had only seen it on hiking boots before this back. You pull a button on the back to release tension, position the person in the back, push the button in, turn the button to tighten some wires, and it is an almost exact mold. Very simple. Change is just as simple. Pull the button, remold.

Invacare Matrx MX2
This “barely there” back is designed to offer unmatched comfort, support and peak performance. Thanks to new hardware options, sizes and cutouts, the MX2 back provides more adjustability than ever before. Carbon fiber Fixed Mount hardware provides the ultimate in suspension for shock absorption, tone control and a comfortable ride. Quick-release hardware features popular Mini-Set brackets for ease of adjustment and portability. The solid carbon fiber back shell is contoured for optimal fit and support, and cutouts reduce weight and buildup of heat and moisture. Your most active users will appreciate the new 6" back height.
An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2017:
I really like this new entry in the carbon fiber market. The back is really lightweight and has some flexibility in the shell so you can have some movement without adding any type of dynamic hardware. The hardware is also small/light, which helps decrease overall weight and lessen the profile of the system.

JAY J3 HV Back
We can’t control the weather, but JAY’s new J3 HV back can influence a wheelchair user’s all-important microclimate. The J3 HV back can provide warmth or cooling at the flip of a switch. Internal thermal technology includes evaporative cooling to dissipate moisture and pull it away from the body. A rechargeable battery provides at least eight hours of continuous use, and indicator lights tell a wheelchair user if heat (red) or cooling (blue) is currently on. An automatic shut-off feature is incorporated for additional safety. A microclimatic cover features wicking material and a layer of 3DX space fabric to promote airflow and dissipate heat/moisture.
