ADED to Offer Computer-Based CDRS Exams in 2015

October 15, 2014 by Laurie Watanabe

Taking the Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) exam starting in 2015 will be much more convenient, according to an announcement from the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED).

In August, ADED’s exam will be administered in a computer-based format at more than 200 testing centers across the United States.

Professionals sitting the exam will still be able to take the hard-copy test in person at ADED’s annual meeting. Exam day is Aug. 4, 2015, at the conference in Louisville, Ky.

But those unable to attend the conference will instead be able to take the exam via computer throughout the month of August.

ADED’s Oct. 15 news announcement noted that there are currently 361 professionals with active CDRS credentials in the United States and Canada, and that the association hopes to add to its roster by making the exam easier to access.

“In recent years, we’ve seen a rise in the demand for CDRS professionals and the skilled services they offer,” said ADED Executive Director Elizabeth Green, OTR/L, CDRS. “As a result, the ADED board of directors set a strategic goal of achieving 500 CDRS by the end of 2016. To reach this goal and ensure that the growing need for services is met, our board has been considering opportunities to increase the number of candidates sitting for the CDRS examination. The expansion into the testing centers is one of the first measures we are undertaking to grow the ranks.”

ADED members are “dedicated to promoting safe, independent community mobility for persons with disabilities and the aging.”
