CMS Details Temporary Adjustable Cushion Codes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced four temporary K codes for adjustable wheelchair cushions รน codes due to go into effect on July 1, 2006, with an implementation date of July 3, 2006.

The four codes are as follows:

K0734: Skin protection wheelchair seat cushion, adjustable, width less than 22 inches, any depth.

K0735: Skin protection wheelchair seat cushion, adjustable, width 22 inches or greater, any depth.

K0736: Skin protection and positioning wheelchair seat cushion, adjustable, width less than 22 inches, any depth.

K0737: Skin protection and positioning wheelchair seat cushion, adjustable, width 22 inches or greater, any depth.

New wheelchair cushion codes went into effect on July 1, 2004, but in the fall of that year, CMS opted to remove adjustable cushions from the skin protection cushion code set and the combination skin protection and positioning cushion code set. Since then, K0108 has served as the adjustable wheelchair cushion code.
