Afikim Wins German Design Award

Afikim Electric Vehicles' Breeze-S scooter has won a Red Dot design award in the life science and medicine category, the manufacturer has announced.
The Red Dot awards are presented by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, a design institute in Essen, Germany. The institute describes the Red Dot awards as being given to "the best in design and business. Our international design competition is aimed at all those who would like to distinguish their business activities through design."
In addition to Afikim's scooter, winners for 2011 included BMW's 5 Series Touring passenger car, Apple's iPhone 4, the Gemino 30 rollator from Handicare (Norway), the 1C60 Triton Prosthetic Foot from Otto Bock, the Easyroller 2 manual wheelchair from Easyroller AS (Norway), and the Scalacombi Mobile Stair Climber from Ulrich Alber GmbH (Germany).
The Breeze-S from Afikim (afiscooters.com) is available in three- and four-wheel configurations with top speeds of more than 9 mph and a weight capacity of 550 lbs. Breeze-S scooters feature LED lighting, an LCD control panel, shock absorbers and fully adjustable orthopedic seats.
