Providers Reminded of Beneficiary Authentication Info When Using IVR

NHIC Corp., the Jurisdiction A DME MAC, has reminded providers that it’s required to authenticate four beneficiary data elements before it can disclose Medicare beneficiary information, regardless of the type of telephone inquiry.
Providers contacting NHIC customer service representatives or using the interactive voice response (IVR) system should have the following information ready for eligibility issues:
-- Last name, including hyphenated names, suffixes and abbreviations of titles
-- First name or initial
-- Health insurance claim number
-- Date of birth
For processed claim information issues, providers need the following information at hand:
-- Last name, including hyphenated names, suffixes and abbreviations of titles
-- First name or initial
-- Health insurance claim number
-- Date of service
-- Reason claim was denied, if inquiry is about a denial
