The city of Torrance, Calif., has given Convaid its 2013 Long-Term Investor Award for its "dedicated service to the affairs of the community and for the civic pride demonstrated by numerous contributions for the benefit of all the citizens of Los Angeles County."
In a news announcement, the award was described as having been created "to honor businesses that have demonstrated excellence throughout the community through partnerships, innovative strategies and continuous effort towards progress."
Convaid was lauded for its community involvement, which has included donating wheelchairs via its Community Outreach Program to consumers and families who could not secure insurance or state funding.
The manual wheelchair manufacturer has also donated equipment to the Pediatric Therapy Network and to North Torrance High School's special needs program in collaboration with the L.A. County Office of Education.
"This is a very big honor for Convaid," company President Chris Braun said. "We take pride in giving back to Torrance and its surrounding cities, and it's great to be recognized for all the contributions Convaid employees have done."
Torrance, with a population of approximately 145,000, is located on the Pacific coast in southwestern California. In addition to being the location of Convaid's headquarters, the city is home to the American headquarters for Toyota Motor Sales and Honda Motor Company.
