RESNA/NCART Event Calls for Course Proposals

The joint RESNA/NCART conference scheduled for July is accepting workshop and instructional course proposals from now until Nov. 19.

The first-ever collaborative event between the two organizations means the conference will include assistive technology education as well as advocacy meetings with legislators and legislative staff on Capitol Hill.

The event will take place July 10-14 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va.

The National Registry of Rehab Technology Suppliers (NRRTS) has also signed on as a conference partner.

In an announcement about the call for proposals, RESNA billed the upcoming event as the “best of both worlds” that will include clinically themed workshops, instructional courses, poster sessions, professional development and leadership training, student competitions and interactive exhibits that the public will be invited to view, free of charge.

Attendees can also participate in networking events and visits to Capitol Hill.

RESNA says it’s seeking “proposals for innovative, interdisciplinary, informative and practical workshops and instructional courses in the following topic areas: Computer applications and communications, cognitive and sensory impairments, internationally appropriate technology, job and environmental accommodation, emerging technology, service delivery and outcomes, public policy and advocacy, seating & mobility, and other [topics].” Those topics may include the psychosocial issues of accepting assistive technology at different stages of life, working with Baby Boomers, and assistive technology and end-of-life situations.

RESNA’s Conference Program Committee Chair, John Anschutz, ATP, RET, said of the event, “We believe this collaboration will help yield strong proposals from the assistive technology community. By combining forces, we are looking to foster greater innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation.”
