The 32nd International Seating Symposium (ISS), starting March 1 in Vancouver, B.C., will invite seating & wheeled mobility clinicians and providers to “Imagine the Possibilities” that can be accomplished via assistive technology.
The event, presented by Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children and sponsored by Sunny Hill and the University of British Columbia’s Interprofessional Continuing Education, will include pre-conference educational sessions and a variety of seating & mobility instructional sessions, plus a keynote address, plenary and poster presentations, technology demonstrations and an exhibit hall that will offer free admission to the public on Tuesday afternoon, March 1.
The exhibit hall, with more than 70 assistive technology exhibitors, will be open Tuesday through Thursday. Educational sessions run from Tuesday (with its three- or six-hour workshops) through mid-day on Friday. The conference takes place at the Westin Bayshore.
In keeping with its “Imagine the Possibilities” theme, the ISS will feature a keynote address on March 2 by Linda McGowan called, “Creative Accessibility & Motivation to Embrace Our Dreams.” A plenary later that morning is entitled, “Smart Wheelchairs: Why They Are (& Why They Aren’t) Almost Here.”
PDG Mobility and Permobil are ISS Diamond sponsors. Platinum sponsors are Amysystems, Invacare Corp. and Ki Mobility. Sunrise Medical is a Silver sponsor, and Bronze sponsors are Bodypoint, Broda Seating, Comfort Company, Joerns Healthcare, Motion Composites, Prime Engineering, Quantum Rehab and U.S. Rehab.
To help maneuver through the venue, MAX Mobility will have SmartDrive power-assist systems available for attendees in manual wheelchairs to borrow.
Professional networking opportunities include breaks and lunches in the exhibit hall, plus a welcome reception in the exhibit hall on Wednesday evening.
