BOC Seeks Nominations for Newberry Service Award

The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) is seeking nominations for the Jim Newberry Award for Extraordinary Service.

In a June 12 news announcement, the organization said the award is named for James Newberry Jr., BOCP, BOCO, BOCPD, who passed away in 2016.

In his honor, BOC created the award to recognize “outstanding individuals who perform extraordinary service to BOC, and who live out the superior example modeled by Newberry during his more than four decades in the field of orthotics and prosthetics.”

Nominees could include current or former BOC board members, test development volunteers, vendors, business partners or personnel from BOC-accredited facilities, as examples.

The 2018 winner was James L. Hewlett, who was recognized at a special dinner of BOC’s board of directors. This year’s winner will also be honored at a board dinner or similar industry function.

BOC Board Chair Wayne R. Rosen, BOCP, BOCO, FAAOP, said in the announcement, “We are pleased to continue Jim’s legacy through recognizing exemplary professionals who are dedicated to BOC. BOC looks forward to this year’s nominations.”

The deadline for nominations is Sept. 6, 2019. To submit a nomination, go to https://www.bocusa.org/NewberryAward/.
