Wisconsin Governor Signs Bill Adding Seat Elevation & Standing to Medicaid Program

Seat elevation and standing options on power wheelchairs are now recognized as complex rehab technology (CRT) within Wisconsin’s Medicaid program following Gov. Tony Evers’s signing of Senate Bill 605, now known as the 2019 Wisconsin Act 186, on April 17.

In an April 17 news announcement, Evers said, “This is an important step to ensuring access to this critical standing technology for those with disabilities. These tools can help individuals with disabilities live more comfortable, healthier, and more independent lives, and I am happy to sign this bill into law today.”

Powered seat elevation and power standing options are now included in Wisconsin’s definition of CRT.

The new law also requires Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services and managed care plans to act on prior authorization requests for CRT within 10 working days of receiving the relevant documentation needed to make a determination.
