LUCI Adds Research Engineer

LUCI, manufacturer of a smart power wheelchair sensor system that identifies potential tipping hazards and other obstacles, has added a research engineer to its team.

Joseph Ott has been a Graduate Student Researcher in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Ph.D. Ott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and a Master of Science degree in engineering management from Robert Morris University.

At Pittsburgh, Ott’s work included developing, building and calibrating a drum-based testing system for rolling resistance on manual wheelchair rear wheels and casters.

Ott also serves as a Warrant Officer in the United States Army Reserve.

In a June 25 news announcement, LUCI’s CTO and co-founder Jered Dean said of the appointment, “We’re thrilled to welcome Joseph to the LUCI team. His research at Pitt and his continued commitment to bettering the lives of wheelchair users makes him a perfect fit for our company. I’m confident that our riders and our engineering team will benefit from his joining LUCI.”
