October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, and the Spina Bifida Association (SBA) has resources that Complex Rehab Technology professionals can use to support
Graphics of teal ribbons marked with the Spinal Bifida Awareness Month hashtag — #SBAM2021 — can be shared in social media posts and used on account profile pages, SBA said.
SBA also created “fact” graphics that can be uploaded and used on social media. Facts illustrated in the graphics include “80% of people living with Spina Bifida also have hydrocephalus” and “Up to 68% of children with Spina Bifida develop a latex allergy.”
SBA also encourages stakeholders to use awareness month to raise funds to promote awareness, education, and support for people living with spina bifida.
According to the SBA, spina bifida — the development of an opening or lesion on the spinal column when a baby’s spine fails to close — is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. On average, eight babies are born with spina bifida per day.
