The Advocacy and Policy team at United Spinal Association is calling for participants to bring their experiences and energy to three new work groups.
In a Nov. 15 news announcement, the organization announced the formation of the three groups:
Accessible Parking Working Group: To advocate for improvement in accessible parking; to increase awareness and provide education regarding common parking barriers for people with disabilities; to increase awareness of accessible parking laws in and regulations in the United States.
Outdoor Access Working Group: To advocate against current constraints “that hinder the disability community from participating in outdoor activities.” Also will focus on raising awareness for inclusivity and equal access to outdoor recreation. This group seeks advocates with outdoor access and recreation experience.
Emergency Preparedness Working Group (Ready to Roll Emergency Preparedness): To focus on emergency preparedness for people with spinal cord injuries/disorders, as well as for the larger wheelchair community. Also to help the community after disasters occur, with an emphasis on promoting greater preparation for, response to, and recovery from various emergencies and disasters.
If you’re interested in participating in any of the groups, contact Steve Lieberman, United Spinal’s Director of Advocacy and Policy, or Annie Streit, the organization’s Grassroots Advocacy Manager.
