BlueSky Designs Partners with Disability Advocate Shane Burcaw

August 29, 2019 by Laurie Watanabe

BlueSky Designs has partnered with Shane Burcaw, disability advocate and social media personality, as part of its launch of a new wheelchair accessory.

BlueSky’s new Pow!r Mount’n Mover is motorized and controlled by a switch, giving the wheelchair user the ability to independently move and control the mount.

BlueSky Designs Power Mount

At its introduction, Pow!r Mount is available as part of a hybrid system, to create a Pow!r Tilt (180-degree range of movement) or Pow!r Shoulder (360-degree range of movement) hybrid.

The system accesses power via a rechargeable battery, a wall outlet, or a power wheelchair battery. Pow!r Mount can be programmed to save, remember and return to often-used positions.

A built-in keypad provides attendant control of the system.

To introduce the Pow!r Mount, BlueSky Designs’ Mary Kay Walch, Director of Sales & Marketing, is co-presenting at Closing the Gap in October and the Assistive Technology Industry Association in January 2020.

Walch will team with Burcaw, a social media celebrity known for his blog, Laughing at My Nightmare. Via the blog, Burcaw, who has used a power wheelchair since age 2, talks about living with spinal muscular atrophy, among other adventures. Burcaw also has authored several books, including Strangers Assume My Girlfriend Is My Nurse, published in April, and the children’s book Not So Different: What You Really Want to Ask About Having a Disability.
