United Spinal: Deadline for Power Standing Letter Is Oct. 4
United Spinal Association is reminding Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) advocates to reach out to their members of Congress to ask them to sign onto the Dear Colleague letter in support of opening a National Coverage Analysis for power standing systems on power wheelchairs.
Visit the United Spinal advocacy page to send an email to your representative by the Oct. 4 deadline.
The Dear Colleague letter, authored by Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), asks the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to open the coverage determination process originally requested in September 2020.
The power standing request initially accompanied a coverage determination request for power seat elevation on power wheelchairs. CMS later split the two requests and has not yet provided a timeline to revisit the power standing issue.
National Organization on Disability Names Leading Disability Employers
The National Organization on Disability (NOD) has awarded the NOD Leading Disability Employer Seal to 59 companies in a range of industries.
In a Sept. 27 announcement, NOD said, “This recognition formally acknowledges companies with the highest performance in disability inclusion practices and policies, benchmarked against more than 200 participating organizations.”
Award winners were determined based on data from the NOD Employment Tracker. Health-care industry winners for 2024 included the American Heart Association, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Eli Lilly and Company, Mayo Clinic, the University of Pittsburgh, and Walgreens.
October is National Disability Employee Awareness month.
