Briefly: New Advocacy Efforts in Puerto Rico; ISWP Seeks Programme Director; NMEDA Conference Correction
Featuring Cure SMA, the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals, and the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association.

February 12, 2024 by Laurie Watanabe

Cure SMA’s Newest Chapter is in Puerto Rico

Cure SMA [spinal muscular atrophy] has a new chapter in Puerto Rico, and the new community is off to a quick start.

In late January, more than 100 people celebrated the new chapter by holding Summit of Strength and Walk-n-Roll events.

In a Feb. 7 press release, Cure SMA said, “The half-mile Walk-n-Roll route was led by a police brigade and traditional Puerto Rican drummers and dancers, and Yojannies Guadalupe, a DJ and adult living with SMA, provided excellent music and entertainment.”

Contact the new chapter by e-mailing [email protected]. Cure SMA, a non-profit dedicated to supporting children, adults, and families living with SMA, as well as to supporting potential SMA treatments and cures, now has 37 chapters throughout the United States.

CureSMA’s annual conference takes place June 6-9 in Austin, Texas.

NMEDA Annual Conference Coming to Kansas City in October

Apologies, Chess Capital of the World. The annual conference for the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is actually taking place this year in Kansas City, Mo. (not in St. Louis, as we reported last week).

The educational, technology, and advocacy event is scheduled for Oct. 5-7. Registration opens in June. — Ed.
