New Driving & Peripheral Neuropathy Fact Sheet Available from ADED
The Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) has introduced a new fact sheet on driving and peripheral neuropathy, described as “a chronic condition that involves damage to the peripheral nerves.”
Peripheral neuropathy can present as decreased or abnormal sensation, such as numbness, tingling, or loss of sensation, or as pain or weakness. Drivers with peripheral neuropathy might have trouble regulating their vehicle speed, might accidentally press both the brake and the accelerator with one foot, and may demonstrate slower reaction times when braking.
ADED fact sheets on disabilities and driving are free to download. Other topics include driving and aging, amputation, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, stroke, and traumatic brain injury.
