CHOP Researches Neurodevelopmental Differences & Driving

Can teens with autism learn to safely drive? Read and hear about the fascinating research going on at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Center for Injury Research & Prevention (CIRP). For example, CIRP research has found that one-third of autistic people without intellectual disability earn their drivers’ licenses by age 21. And two-thirds of adolescents with autism who are of legal driving age and without intellectual disability are already driving or planning to drive.

In a social media post, the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) said, “ADED proudly supports the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s research efforts to help autistic individuals stay mobile.”
