Briefly: Seat Elevation Update, This Month’s Industry Webinar, & a Wheelchair User Wins a Backyard Makeover

September 6, 2023 by Mobility Management

NCART Provides Seat Elevation Update

Following the mid-May decision to provide Medicare coverage for power seat elevation, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) “must now determine the coding for these systems and establish appropriate reimbursement to ensure access,” NCART said in its Aug. 31 newsletter.

“To prepare for this,” the organization added, “an NCART workgroup has been working to prepare and submit coding applications, providing additional data to CMS, and keeping the CRT community updated with the latest information.”

NCART added the coding and national fee schedule amounts would be discussed during a public HCPCS meeting this fall. “Final implementation of coverage is anticipated in early 2024,” the NCART bulletin added.

Next Industry Webinar Update Is Sept. 28

The next Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) update Webinar takes place Thurs., Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. Eastern. As usual, the event will be cohosted by NCART, NRRTS, the Clinician Task Force, and U.S. Rehab.

California Gardener Wins Bobcat Backyard Makeover

Julie Rummer from Turlock, Calif., is the winner of the Bobcat Backyard Makeover Contest. In an Aug. 30 announcement, Bobcat — which manufactures equipment such as loaders, excavators, and tractors — said Rummer and her family won a $25,000 yard and garden makeover, and will also meet country music star and Bobcat brand ambassador Justin Moore.

Of five finalists, Rummer, who was paralyzed in a 1995 car accident, won the most votes when the contest was opened to the public. She had said that while she enjoys gardening, her wheelchair often picks up dirt and weeds, and that a wheelchair-accessible garden would enable her to spend more time outdoors.

Laura Ness Owens, Bobcat’s VP of Global Brand and Communications and North American Marketing, said, “We are thrilled to announce Julie Rummer as the winner and can’t wait to bring her backyard dreams to life. At Bobcat, we are committed to empowering people to conquer their biggest challenges, and we are proud to help Julie in her pursuits by enhancing her backyard.”
