Briefly: Updates from the NPIAP, NMEDA, and SafeSport

June 28, 2023 by Laurie Watanabe

NPIAP Conference Sessions Now Available On Demand

A reminder that 16 sessions from the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel’s (NPIAP) annual conference in March can now be watched on demand. In total, 11.5 multi-disciplined continuing education hours are available. If you previously registered for the conference, e-mail [email protected] to receive a promo code. Otherwise, head to the Learning Management Site (LMS) to register.

NMEDA Pricing Changes Start July 1

The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) has announced an upcoming increase in supply prices for NMEDA members. The new pricing begins July 1. NMEDA cited “the cost of raw materials and manufacturing” in creating the price hikes, “something we have not done in many years.”

Paralympian Is New SafeSport Chair

The U.S. Center for SafeSport has a new Chair of its board of directors.

In a June 22 announcement, SafeSport announced that Paralympic gold medalist April Holmes is taking over for outgoing Chair Jessica Herrera-Flanigan. Holmes previously was the Vice Board Chair and Athletic Director. She is the first Paralympian to serve as SafeSport’s Chair.

“As the first athlete and Paralympian to serve as the U.S. Center for SafeSport Board Chair, I see it as my duty to give back to the young people coming up behind me and my responsibility to demonstrate what representation and inclusive leadership look like,” Holmes said. “It is an honor to be selected by my fellow board members for this important role, and I look forward to working with them to ensure the Center remains focused on trust, independence, accountability, and continuous improvement.”

Holmes, a track and field athlete, is a three-time Paralympian medalist, having won medals in the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012 Games as a member of the United States team.

SafeSport describes itself as the United States’ “only independent organization dedicated to ending sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in U.S. Olympic and Paralympic sport.”
