CEDI Defines Its Functions, Abilities for DME Suppliers

April 1, 2008 by Mobility Management

The Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) seeks to provide “a single electronic front-end solution for all DME MAC suppliers,” according to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) bulletin. But now that CEDI is operational, what services does it provide? And what doesn’t it provide?

CMS says CEDI will “work closely with DME MAC software vendors, billing services, clearinghouses and trading partners (electronic submitters) on all electronic front-end needs. Once implemented, all DME MAC electronic claims (ANSI and NC:DP) and 276 transactions will be collected by CEDI.  CEDI will also return all DME MAC electronic front-end reports, remittance advices and the 277 response transaction.”

CEDI does not handle Claim Status Inquiry (CSI); Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT); status of claims in any of the DME MACs’ processing systems; questions regarding adjudication of claims; or questions regarding the content of an Electronic Remittance Advice. Suppliers should contact the appropriate DME MAC for those issues.CEDI’s help desk operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time. Call (866) 311-9184, or e-mail NGS.[email protected].
