The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced HCPCS code updates for the new year.
According to Medicare’s Pricing, Data Analysis & Coding (PDAC) Web site, the new codes and modifiers became effective for dates of service on or after Jan. 1, 2013, and there is no grace period during which discontinued codes can still be used.
Codes relating to wheelchair options and accessories are as follows:
— E2378: Power wheelchair actuator, replacement only (added code).
— E1020: New narrative is “Residual limb support system for wheelchair, any type.”
— E2368: New narrative is “Power wheelchair component, drive wheel motor, replacement only.”
— E2369: New narrative is “Power wheelchair component, drive wheel gear box, replacement only.”
— E2370: New narrative is “Power wheelchair component, integrated drive wheel motor and gear box combination, replacement only.”
The PDAC site listed changes for a number of other DME product categories, including hospital beds and accessories; lower limb prostheses; ostomy supplies; and oxygen and oxygen equipment.
