CMS Asks for ICD-10 Test Volunteers

September 25, 2014 by Laurie Watanabe

With the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 code sets coming up a year from now, a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) project is seeking supplier volunteers for new end-to-end testing.

A bulletin from NHIC Corp., the Jurisdiction A DME MAC, said the testing, conducted by the DME MACs, will take place Jan. 26-30, 2015, and will include 50 participants from each DME MAC. Participants will be selected from among suppliers who volunteer.

To participate, volunteers must be DME suppliers or clearinghouses/billing services who submit claims to Medicare. Claims must be submitted electronically to CEDI, and volunteers must be able to receive electronic remittance advices.

Volunteers must also have their ICD-10 software already installed and should have internally tested the software prior to submitting their names for the project. They must be able to submit future-dated claims, CMS added.

The volunteers who participate in the project will be supplying National Provider Identifiers, Provider Transaction Account Numbers and beneficiary Health Insurance Claim Numbers. That information will be needed a few months before the actual testing so that the project can be set up.

The deadline for volunteering to participate in the testing is Friday, Oct. 3. To volunteer, click HERE to access the form on the ICD-10 information page.

ICD-10 code sets replace the current ICD-9 codes on Oct. 1, 2015.
