A revised Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN) form is available and must be used starting Nov. 1, 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is reminding providers.
The new ABN form was supposed to be used starting in September, but CMS changed the start date to November “to accommodate those providers and suppliers with pre-printed stockpiles of ABNs so that they have additional time to exhaust their supplies of the outgoing ABN.”
The ABN form is used by various Medicare providers and suppliers when Medicare payment is expected to be denied. The revised form can be used immediately. Starting Nov. 1, using the new form becomes mandatory.
