CMS Seeks ICD-10 Test Volunteers

April 6, 2015 by Laurie Watanabe

With the transition to ICD-10 code sets coming to the United States healthcare system in October, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is planning another round of testing involving its DME MACs.

The testing will take place July 20-24, and will involve 50 participants from each DME MAC, to be chosen from the pool of providers who indicate they’d like to take part.

A March 20 bulletin from CMS said participants will be selected “to represent a broad cross-section of DMEPOS supplier types, claims types and submitter types.”

Providers who are interested in volunteering must fill out a form and submit it by April 17. Providers who participated in the January or April testing weeks are already registered for the July event and don’t have to fill out a new registration form.

To access the volunteer form, go to the CEDI Web site — ngscedi.com – and click on the ICD-10 Testing Information page. Providers who are registered for the event will be notified by May 8 regarding whether or not they were chosen to take part.

“The CEDI and DME MAC systems will be able to accommodate future dates of service for this testing,” the bulletin said. “Test claims with ICD-10 codes must be submitted with dates of service [of] Oct. 1, 2015, through Oct. 15, 2015.”

Each provider can send up to 50 test claims during the testing week. The DME MAC will process the claims and render an electronic remittance advice, which will be sent to the provider.

Requirements to take part in the testing week include having an active Trading Partner ID with CEDI, and submitting claims directly to CEDI currently.

Testing providers will be given a new Trading Partner ID to use for the ICD-10 test.

For more requirements to take part in the testing, visit the CEDI Web site. ICD-10 codes will replace the current ICD-9 code sets on claims with dates of service on or after Oct. 1, 2015.
