Convaid Launches Contest for Special Needs Families

March 6, 2015 by Laurie Watanabe

A child’s new diagnosis can be overwhelming for the entire family, who can be faced with a flood of information and a wide range of opinions in a short amount of time.

That reality has spurred Convaid to ask those families a simple question: “What do you wish you had known at the time of your child’s initial diagnosis?”

Knowing how other families coped could help families who are new to the special-needs landscape — and to encourage the sharing of experiences, Convaid is launching a contest called “Convaid Cares.”

Participants who share their experiences via essays, photos or videos will be entered to win new accessories for their children’s wheelchairs.

In explaining why the wheelchair manufacturer created the contest, Convaid President Chris Braun said in a news bulletin, “A special-need diagnosis is cushioned when families can immediately begin learning from other special needs families who have grown closer, learned new skills and ultimately learned to thrive through such a new family dynamic.”

The contest starts March 9, with entries due by March 31. Convaid will share stories via its #convaidcares hashtag, and will ultimately profile three winning families in its newsletter and through its social media outlets.

Participants can submit an essay, photos or a video to Convaid’s marketing communications manager, Milena Rimassa at [email protected].
