Invacare Matrx MX2

Invacare Matrx MX2

This “barely there” back is designed to offer unmatched comfort, support and peak performance. Thanks to new hardware options, sizes and cutouts, the MX2 back provides more adjustability than ever before. Carbon fiber Fixed Mount hardware provides the ultimate in suspension for shock absorption, tone control and a comfortable ride. Quick-release hardware features popular Mini-Set brackets for ease of adjustment and portability. The solid carbon fiber back shell is contoured for optimal fit and support, and cutouts reduce weight and buildup of heat and moisture. Your most active users will appreciate the new 6" back height.

AGILITY Carbon Back System

AGILITY Carbon Back System

With a compression-molded, lightweight carbon fiber construction, the AGILITY Carbon combines high-strength performance with a streamlined design. With single clamps on each side, hardware is smaller, lighter and stronger than typical fixed-back hardware. Discs lock into the carbon fiber to create a solid backrest; when loosened, the discs allow the shell to rotate independently to provide 15° forward/rearward angle adjustment in 5° increments. Widths range from 14" to 18" in 1" increments.

Tarta Original

Tarta Original

Contouring depths and location are fully customizable on the Tarta Original back, thanks to an array of interchangeable ribs. The Tarta Original is made of harmonic steel central plates that construct the spine; composite vertebrae; a breathable AirMesh cover; high-resiliency foam in all pads; and lightweight aluminum ribs. This design allows for an infinite height range (standard heights are 8-14"), as well as outstanding breathability. Hardware options include rigid mount, height-adjustable rigid mount, quick-remove cane mount and quick-remove, bolt-on rigidizer bar.

Tarta Backrest

Tarta Backrests

The Tarta series of backrests combines avant garde materials with ergonomic designs to create postural supports that are adaptable and can be highly personalized. Apply slats of different shapes and measurements to the desired number of vertebrae, and choose different kinds of padding on each vertebra as well. The harmonic steel used within the vertebrae “memorizes” its original position when subjected to distortion, which gives the Tarta system flexibility and resistance. The upper section is more flexible and easily adapts to the movement of the user’s body to maintain postural control, while lower vertebrae, when locked, offer effective lower-back support.

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:

What can I say — this is pure genius. Adjustable. Customization to the max. From the custom graphics to the deep contour (great shape for trunk/thoracic support) and breathability, this is functional and beautiful.

Acta-Embrace Backrest

Acta-Embrace Backrest

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:

For pediatric back positioning, I haven’t found anything that beats the Embrace back. The moldable bars in the backrest surface meet needs pre- and postspinal surgery, as do the ultra-adjustable/moldable lateral thoracic (and hip, if desired) support pads. They can be configured to even avoid arm interference when a child needs to self propel, and the upgraded headrest, swing-away lateral support hardware and backcane mounting hardware make it even more of a winner.

Elements Back

Elements Back

The Elements general-use back (code E2611/E2612) has a strapping system to accommodate kyphosis and offer lumbar support. The 1” pressure-relieving foam provides a more comfortable back support than a sling back, and the back securely installs over the wheelchair canes. The Elements backrest folds with the wheelchair for easy transportation and storage. Choose from cover options including Stretch-Air or Comfort-Tek fabric.

Acta-Relief

Acta-Relief

The all-new Acta-Relief integrates the flexible, adjustable BOA closure system that allows the back to offset the center of pressure and better remove pressure points from the spine, so equal and stable pressure distribution is accomplished in an “off-the-shelf” back design. The Acta-Relief is available in 16", 18" and 20" widths and 18", 20" or 22" heights.

An ATP & Clinician Best Pick of 2016:

The product that has most impressed me this year is the Acta-Relief back from the Comfort Company. It seems that I have struggled, throughout my 30-year career as an ATP, to find a back that accommodates a kyphotic posture well, and allows provision of lateral supports. This back allows both, and provides comfort and support for this population. I have had great success with it.
