Don Clayback: Today, We Are Better Organized

October 1, 2011 by Mobility Management

Don ClaybackWhile complex rehab technology faces significant challenges today, we are in a much better position to deal with these than we were 10 years ago.

In 2004 NCART was formed by a group of dedicated complex rehab technology (CRT) suppliers and manufacturers to focus specifically on protecting and improving access to CRT. In 2008 our industry was able to get Congress to recognize the uniqueness of CRT with the exemption of complex rehab power and accessories from competitive bidding.

We are actively working on creating separate coverage and payment recognition for CRT with federal, state and private payors. We are doing this with a greater collaboration with and support from consumer and clinician advocacy organizations. Today, we are better organized, have achieved some wins and are making inroads in educating payors and policy makers on what CRT is all about.

We are making progress, but have a lot of work ahead. NCART is committed to leading the fight to protect access to CRT for people with disabilities and other significant medical conditions.
