Drive Medical has acquired DeVilbiss Healthcare, a global manufacturer of respiratory and sleep products.
The July 2 announcement said Drive and DeVilbiss would operate independently “in the short term,” but would be working toward integrating the two companies in the Americas. “In the rest of the world, Drive and DeVilbiss will continue to operate as independent entities,” the announcement said.
After the integration is completed, the two companies will form Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare.
DeVilbiss was acquired by Sunrise Medical in 1993, and then split off from Sunrise in 2010.
The company manufactures respiratory, sleep therapy, nebulizer and suction therapy products, as well as masks and accessories. DeVilbiss is headquartered in Somerset, Pa.
“DeVilbiss has a long history of innovation in respiratory, going back to the 1880s,” said Drive Medical CEO Harvey P. Diamond. “While their products still enjoy considerable marketshare, we think there is potential to do much more with the DeVilbiss brand and product line, especially since the sleep market is the fastest-growing segment in the industry. We believe Drive has the experience, resources and passion to restore DeVilbiss as a leader in the respiratory and sleep markets and put the DeVilbiss name back on top, where it belongs.”
This is the second Drive Medical acquisition in the last few months. On March 31, the company announced it had acquired Columbia Medical, manufacturer of complex rehab and positioning bath/shower systems, car seats and manual wheelchairs with positioning features.
