Encore! Jean Minkel to Deliver 2025 Colin McLaurin Lecture on Sept. 18
The RESNA-hosted virtual presentation follows Minkel’s original presentation in May in Chicago.

September 3, 2025 by Laurie Watanabe

Jean L. Minkel, PT, ATP, will be giving an encore presentation of her 2025 Colin McLaurin Lecture, this time virtually.

The Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) is hosting the free one-hour event — Mobility Equity: Uncovering Systemic Inequities Towards Persons with Mobility Disabilities — on Thursday, Sept. 18, starting at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Minkel — who received this year’s Colin McLaurin Distinguished Lectureship Award — originally gave the presentation live in May at the RESNA conference in Chicago. This second presentation, RESNA added, was scheduled by popular demand.

“For the last two decades, I have had the privilege of running a wheelchair service designed to meet the needs of persons with mobility disabilities in New York City,” Minkel said in the lecture’s abstract. “Very quickly, I learned I had to listen more and talk less. Through listening, I discovered what people really needed, which is not always what the system was providing.

“This talk will use Bryan Stevenson’s four guiding principles to move toward justice, as a framework to work toward mobility equity. We will examine our clinical practices, public policies, research agendas and technology offerings to uncover systemic inequities toward persons with mobility disabilities.”

Attendees who complete the post-webinar survey and quiz can earn 0.1 IACET CEU.
