As 2025 winds down, the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals (ISWP) is seeking donations to its Wheelchair Impact Fund, which supports wheelchair provision worldwide.
“Appropriate wheelchair provision requires inclusive policies, access to a range of appropriate products, trained providers, comprehensive procurement systems, and real participation from wheelchair users,” ISWP Executive Director Alex Kamadu said in a Dec. 1 email.
“Since 2015, ISWP has trained over 1,500 providers, certified more than 1000 professionals, and helped strengthen systems in several countries. The training of these 1,500 professionals results in approximately 1,440,000 wheelchair user lives impacted in a year.”
Kamadu added that a $40 donation “helps one provider in a low-resource setting join our community and access training and mentorship, unlocking their potential.” And a $1,000 donation “provides membership access for 100 providers in low-resource settings, empowering them through mentorship and professional development.”
The ISWP said 80 million people worldwide need wheelchairs, “yet most will never receive one that fits their body, environment or daily life. Even in well-resourced countries, inequalities persist. Appropriate wheelchair provision requires more than a product. It demands strong policies, skilled providers, appropriate products, robust procurement, meaningful user participation, and a system build on inclusion, dignity and evidence.”
The organization put out a call for support in April, after changes in foreign aid funding from the Trump administration.
