Jenx Ltd., known for its specialized pediatric positioning products, has announced it’s started “a formal consultation process regarding a proposal to close” manufacturing operations.
“The proposed closure follows a sustained period of financial pressure on manufacturing, which has been echoed in U.K. manufacturing businesses supplying all sectors in recent months,” Jenx said in a July 9 press release. “Rising costs, reduced public sector funding and an increasingly challenging market environment are placing unsustainable pressure on manufacturing operations. Despite considerable efforts to improve sustainability and explore alternative options, the company has not found a viable long-term future for in-house manufacturing under its current model.”
The company added that the proposal would focus “entirely on [Jenx’s] U.K. distribution arm, Jiraffe, which continues to grow and offer long-term potential.”
Adaptive Imports, based in Erlanger, Kentucky, is Jenx’s distributor in the United States. Jenx lists R&M Health Care Inc., Burlington, Ontario, as its Canadian distributor.
Jenx’s product lines include Dreama, for 24-hour positioning, and the Multistander and Standz standing systems. The company also offers seating systems and therapy systems. In April, Jenx announced it had acquired Daytot, a brand that focuses on early-intervention positioning products.
“Jenx Ltd. has a proud legacy of innovation and social impact,” said Managing Director Holly Jenkins. “This proposal has not been made lightly. It reflects the difficult realities of our operating environment and our commitment to securing the future of the organization as a whole so we may continue to provide vital products and services to children and families living with complex disability. We are focused on supporting all those affected with respect, transparency and care.”
The company expects approximately 65 jobs to be lost if manufacturing operations end as proposed.
“No final decision has yet been made, and it remains possible that an alternative solution may be found during the consultation period,” Jenkins said. “If we are not successful in finding a viable alternative, we expect all manufacturing operations to cease by the end of the year.”
Jenx manufacturing will continue during the consultation period.
