Kessler Foundation Seeks Employment Experiences from People with Disabilities

October 3, 2011 by Laurie Watanabe

The Kessler Foundation, an organization that focuses on the field of disability, is celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (aka, October) by asking people with disabilities to share their employment and abilities-related experiences.

“Everyone has limitations to overcome,” says Rodger DeRose, Kessler Foundation president/CEO. “To do so, they find new abilities. People with disabilities are no different. Too often, however, society focuses on disabilities rather than abilities.”

To counteract that tendency, DeRose says, “We’re offering an inclusive forum where people can highlight their abilities and encourage others to see beyond their disabilities. The goal is to connect people – with and without disabilities – to share their common experiences in overcoming limitations.”

Stories can be shared on the Kessler Foundation’s Facebook page: facebook.com/KesslerFoundation.

The Kessler Foundation includes a research center focusing on rehabilitation research in seven specialized laboratories. Research seeks to improve function and quality of life for people with conditions such as spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke and other neurological conditions.
