LAS VEGAS – The MED Group has launched a National Orthotics & Prosthetics Network headed by complex rehab industry veteran Tim Pederson.
Pederson and The MED Group (www.medgroup.com) used last week’s National Business Meeting and Medtrade Spring events to roll out the new network and to discuss it with providers in Las Vegas.
“The changing reimbursement environment within the industry is creating the opportunity for more providers to expand into new business lines that further enhance their respective service offerings,” said Jeff Woodham, VP and GM of The MED Group in a news release about the new network. “Orthotics and prosthetics represents a significant opportunity, and the development of the MED Orthotics & Prosthetics Network will help MED members enter into this new product category.”
Woodham indicated that the new network would recruit existing MED Group members, and also reach out to established orthotics and prosthetics providers.
“Tim is leading our efforts to help members look beyond DME and complex rehab, and expand into additional, profitable product categories they may not have encountered in the past,” Woodham said.
Pederson gave a presentation last week to MED Group members assembled for National Rehab and Respiratory Network meetings. In an interview with Mobility Management, Pederson said of the orthotics and prosthetics specialty, “That’s going to be the savior of rehab.” He cited higher product margins and greater professional and clinical autonomy among the reasons that the orthotics and prosthetics field is financially healthy.
Pederson co-founded WestMed Rehab in South Dakota in 1998. In 2001, the company expanded into the orthotics and prosthetics field. Pederson is also a board member with the American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) and past president of the Midwest Association for Medical Equipment Services (MAMES).
