Aergo Health’s Aerseat
Merits Health Products Company has acquired Aergo Health, a dynamic seating manufacturer based in London, England.
“The acquisition of Aergo Health aligns perfectly with our mission of enabling independence
and accessibility for all,” said Jonathan Cheng, president of Merits Health Products, in an April 2 news announcement. ‘By incorporating Aergo’s clinically validated technology into our product lineup, we’re
taking a significant step forward in enhancing our seating and positioning solutions for customers worldwide.”
“Aergo Health has built a strong reputation for its clinically validated postural management
solutions that support children and adults with neuromuscular disorders,” Merits said in the announcement. “The company has also been developing AI capabilities to personalize and automate postural management setup, adapting to the changing seating needs of wheelchair users. At its core, Aergo believes that effective postural management is critical to independence and comfort. By focusing on supporting and maintaining healthy and functional seated posture, Aergo’s solutions help reduce
pain and prevent pressure ulcers for wheelchair users. This patient-centered ethos will continue
to drive innovation as the company integrates with Merits Health Products Inc.”
Aergo Health founder/CEO Sheana Yu has joined Merits as its product manager for the United Kingdom. Yu, who has lived with scoliosis since childhood, credited that experience “as well as listening to others” for her passion “for innovating smart solutions for managing posture.”
The company’s first two products are the Aerseat (pictured) — a wheelchair cushion and back system with smart, built-in air cells that can be adjusted via the Aerseat app — and the Aergo PS, a pediatric smart seating system that can also be controlled by an Aergo Health app.
“The acquisition will significantly advance Merits Health Products’ strategic plans to expand its innovation capabilities and Internet of Things initiatives,” the announcement added. “Aergo’s AI technology and smart seating solutions will serve as a cornerstone for Merits’ development of connected mobility devices that can provide real-time data analytics, remote adjustments, and
predictive maintenance capabilities.”
Merits’ product portfolio includes consumer and rehab power wheelchairs, as well as the Precision Comfort wheelchair cushion line with skin protection and positioning abilities.
