MM: Tell us about the Jazzy Ultra Light, including its top features and benefits.
Donatoni: The Jazzy Ultra Light is a lightweight power wheelchair designed to make travel easier. With a 300-lb. capacity, it weighs just 33 lbs. with the battery removed and folds flat in just a few quick steps. It’s easy to pick up and store in car trunks, and with an airline-compliant lithium battery, it can be brought on trips near and far. We like to call it the “ultimate travel companion” for its ease of use and its durable carbon fiber frame.
MM: In designing this product, what were the top priorities of your design team and engineers?
Donatoni: Pride Mobility has tirelessly pursued new innovations in lightweight power mobility. Our team wanted to engineer a product based on our popular Jazzy Carbon power chair for this market, and the Jazzy Ultra Light improves upon its predecessor in several ways. Its overall weight is reduced by about 6 lbs., a new locking mechanism helps keep the unit secure when folded, and comfort features such as a breathable mesh back, seat cushion, and programmable electronics were added.
MM: Who and/or what were the inspirations for your winning product’s functionality, features and design elements?
Donatoni: We constantly receive feedback from providers and consumers about our products and the biggest needs in the market. With our providers experiencing success with the Jazzy Carbon, and from the positive reviews we received from consumers at various trade shows, Pride was inspired to take the next step in travel mobility. Everything that makes the Jazzy Ultra Light special is a result of this feedback as we strive to meet the needs of our consumer base.
MM: Who benefits from your product? Can you offer a “typical” client profile?
Donatoni: Many individuals who require mobility assistance may have previously been more active, while others have been using a mobility device their entire lives. Whether it’s someone who wants to recapture the joy of traveling or someone who’s looking to see the world for the first time, the Jazzy Ultra Light makes both a possibility. Some users will be able to store the unit in the trunk of a car on their own because of its light weight, but for those that can’t, caregivers will find it much easier to handle than typical power chairs. The Jazzy Ultra Light is ideal for those that are on the move a lot throughout the day or just wish to travel more.
MM: Does your winning product offer adjustability or customizability for the different needs of different clients?
Donatoni: The joystick controller can be affixed to either armrest depending on the user’s preference. It’s also programmable, meaning the top speed can be reduced for users who may struggle controlling the joystick. Just like the controller, the cup holder can attach to either armrest. Accessories include a headrest to provide additional comfort to the user and an attendant control, so that if the user is unable to drive the power chair, a caregiver can do so while directly behind the unit.
MM: How does your winning product optimize independence, function, safety, confidence, success with everyday goals, etc., for its consumers?
Donatoni: The Jazzy Ultra Light is a FDA Class II Medical Device, which means it adheres to the most stringent testing standards in the industry. Users can travel with confidence knowing their product is safe and engineered for top levels of performance and quality. Whether around the house or when traveling, this power chair fulfills the needs of those seeking greater independence in their everyday lives.
MM: What funding options are available for this product?
Donatoni: The Jazzy Ultra Light is mainly a retail purchase with HCPCS Code K0899. HSA/FSA and CareCredit are financing options for consumers.
MM: What makes a product or service a Mobility Management Product Award winner? What advice do you have for future entrants?
Donatoni: Pride Mobility dedicates significant resources to innovation within the power mobility market. The Jazzy Ultra Light represents a new era of travel mobility and is our lightest product (as of the announcement of the awards) without compromising on quality or safety. A relentless pursuit of innovation for the benefit of the people that use our products will continue to be our driving force, and we’re appreciative to be recognized for that dedication within our industry.
