MM: Tell us about the MAGIC MOBILITY XT4 All Terrain Power Wheelchair, including its top features and benefits.

Chance: The XT4 is an off-road 4×4 power wheelchair developed for riders who refuse to be limited by rough terrain. Designed by Magic Mobility to conquer sand, snow, mud and uneven ground, the XT4 allows riders to explore extreme terrain while being fully supported. Available with either a rehab or captain-like seating system, the XT4 can be configured to meet the rider’s needs. The XT4 utilizes a patented suspension, keeping all four wheels on the ground for greater stability and comfort. Servo-powered steering promotes intuitive navigation both in forward and reverse. Lastly, with larger batteries and improved efficiency, the XT4 is designed to take you even further off-road.

MM: In designing this product, what were the top priorities of your design team and engineers?

Chance: When designing the XT4, the goals were focused on allowing riders to push their boundaries by going even further into the great outdoors, and for longer. To do this successfully, it was important that riders would feel more comfortable and secure, while having more control and confidence when navigating outdoor environments.

MM: Who and/or what were the inspirations for your winning product’s functionality, features and design elements?

Chance: The development and inspiration for the XT4 comes directly from riders who were already challenging the status quo for what could be accomplished in a power wheelchair. With 15 years of experience with the Magic Mobility Extreme X8 on the market, the engineers leaned heavily on feedback from riders who had taken this wheelchair to the limit and were still asking for more.

MM: Who benefits from your product? Can you offer a “typical” client profile?

Chance: The XT4 is a power wheelchair designed for off-road riders. Both power wheelchair and manual wheelchair riders are common clients for an XT4. Starting from either a rehab or an MPS (captain-style) seating system, the XT4 can be configured to meet the rider’s positioning needs so that they are fully supported while exploring the outdoors.

MM: Does your winning product offer adjustability or customizability for the different needs of different clients?

Chance: Yes, the design of the XT4 is inherently modular so that it can be configured to best fit the rider’s individual needs. The base seating is either a rehab or an MPS (captain-style) seating system. If power positioning is needed, the wheelchair can be equipped with 50 degrees of tilt, 12” of seat elevate, and 150 degrees power recline.

MM: How does your winning product optimize independence, function, safety, confidence, success with everyday goals, etc., for its consumers?

Chance: The XT4 allows riders to independently explore a variety of off-road terrain in a chair that is comfortable, stable and durable. The XT4 gives riders the opportunity to explore their own property, journey through park trails, and enjoy hobbies that would otherwise be inaccessible, such as hunting or fishing.

MM: What funding options are available for this product?

Chance: The XT4 is not covered under a HCPCS code and is mainly a retail purchase.

MM: What makes a product or service a Mobility Management Product Award winner? What advice do you have for future entrants?

Chance: This technology provides unparalleled access for riders. With four 700W high-torque motors, servo-powered steering, and patented all-wheel suspension, the XT4 delivers confidence, control, and comfort across sand, snow, mud, gravel, and uneven ground.
