Motion Composites has officially launched a facility in New York for the assembly of its ultralightweight wheelchairs.

CEO Eric Simoneau was among the Motion Composites team members on hand in Plattsburgh, New York, to open the facility that will reinforce “the company’s long-standing commitment to its U.S. customers and end users by providing U.S.-assembled wheelchairs to the American market,” according to a June 10 press release.

Quebec-based Motion Composites manufactures rigid and folding ultralightweight chairs featuring carbon fiber and aluminum frames. Its wheelchair lines include the Apex, Helio and Veloce.

The new location at 625 Cornelia Street “allows the company to assemble key product lines closer to its U.S. partners, simplifying logistics while maintaining the same high design and performance standards that define the brand,” the company said.

“This isn’t just a new building, it’s a new chapter,” said Simoneau said. “It reflects our long-term vision for the U.S. market. In a world that’s constantly evolving, this is a smart, forward-looking step, one that helps us navigate future uncertainties, seize opportunities, and fuel continued growth, all while empowering people through mobility.”

Michael Hughes, the company’s national sales director, said the new assembly center better aligns Motion Composites with clinicians, providers and end users throughout the United States.

“This new facility brings us closer to our U.S. customers in a meaningful way,” Hughes noted. “It reflects our commitment to supporting the specific needs of the American market with products proudly assembled here.”

The Plattsburgh facility will begin assembling select wheelchair models “with plans to gradually ramp up production as the facility scales,” the announcement said. “Every wheelchair assembled in Plattsburgh is built to the same rigorous quality and engineering standards upheld at the company’s Canadian headquarters.”

In addition to manufacturing ultralightweight wheelchairs, Motion Composites’ portfolio includes NXT seating and positioning, and Newton parts and accessories.
