National Government Services (NGS), the Jurisdiction B DME MAC, has sent a reminder on the importance of correctly using pricing modifiers on DME claims.
In a Dec. 22 bulletin, NGS emphasized the correct use of NU (beneficiary is purchasing new equipment), RR (beneficiary is renting used or new equipment) and UE (beneficiary is purchasing used equipment) modifiers.
If pricing modifiers are needed, they must appear in the first modifier position on the claim, before any other modifiers, NGS says.
Pricing modifiers are commonly used in conjunction with capped rental items; inexpensive or routinely purchased equipment; and frequently and substantially serviced items.
