Mobility dealers, start your engines!
Daytona Beach, Fla., is famous for its motorsports, but next week, engines of a different sort will be revving as members of the adaptive automotive industry – manufacturers, dealers and clinicians – come to town for the annual National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) conference.
And for the first time, adaptive automotive equipment users will join the event, as consumers are invited to tour the exhibit hall.
Keynote speaker Jim Abbott kicks off the festivities the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 6. Abbott, born without a right hand, is a former pitcher for several Major League Baseball teams, including the California Angels and the New York Yankees. While in college, Abbott won the Sullivan Award as the nation’s top amateur athlete, and was a member of the United States’ gold medal-winning baseball team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Since retiring from baseball, Abbott has worked with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy and as a motivational speaker.
The NMEDA exhibit hall opens Wednesday evening, following a full day of business and member meetings.
Product presentations from manufacturers including BraunAbility, Bruno Independent Living Aids, Drive Master, Q’Straint, Sure-Lok and Vantage Mobility International, take place on Thursday, Feb. 7. The day concludes with NMEDA’s annual auction and awards banquet.
Friday, Feb. 8, begins with a keynote from Richard Farrell, president of Tangent Knowledge Systems, a national sales development and training firm headquartered in Chicago. Farrell has written an upcoming book titled Selling Has Nothing to Do with Selling.
Consumers can visit the exhibit hall from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, free of charge.
