For so many reasons — safety and wheelchair compatibility being at the top of the list — it’s crucial to use accessible vehicles designed and adapted by experts. But keeping up with which accessible vehicles have been officially vetted and approved can be challenging, given the array of manufacturers and vehicle makes and models now available.
Fortunately, the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) keeps a comprehensive list of vehicle conversions that “have been reviewed and accepted for compliance to certain Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards by NMEDA’s Compliance Review Program engineers.”
The list shows manufacturers and their approved conversions, with those vehicle conversions listed by Make, Model, Years, and Conversion Type.
NMEDA updates members and stakeholders when new safety-reviewed conversions become available, such as the new Toyota Sienna hybrid rear-entry long-drop conversion from Savaria, announced in the May 18 NMEDA Short Circuit newsletter.
