The National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers (NRRTS) turns 30 years old in 2022 — and the organization has planned a number of activities to remember its past while celebrating its future.
In a Dec. 13 news announcement, NRRTS said that for the first 30 weeks of 2022, it “will be issuing weekly announcements featuring people, memories, accomplishments, struggles, and growth. After 30 weeks of announcements, we will stage a virtual anniversary party to which everyone will be invited.”
NRRTS was incorporated in 1992, at a time, the organization pointed out, that “there were no standards for the provision of Complex Rehab Technology, no certification, no supplier qualifications, few equipment options, and easier documentation. Anyone could provide wheelchairs and seating. There was no complaint process and no code of ethics.”
Today, NRRTS registrants “must meet rigorous standards, and after a review process and approval, obtain the designations RRTS [Registered Rehabilitation Technology Supplier] and CRTS [Certified Complex Rehabilitation Technology Supplier].”
Weesie Walker, ATP/SMS, NRRTS’ Executive Director, said in the announcement, “We’re proud of what we’ve done, what we’ve become, and where we’re going. We still have a long way to go, and we’re dedicated to the continuing support and advancement of CRT suppliers.”
NRRTS also used the announcement of its upcoming anniversary to remember Simon Margolis, the organization’s first Executive Director. Margolis passed away in 2016.
“Simon Margolis… represented the very best in what it means to be an active, involved and committed member of the Complex Rehab Technology community,” the announcement said. “His visionary leadership made NRRTS and the entire CRT community what it is today. In addition to celebrating all CRT suppliers, this anniversary celebrates Simon and his vision.”
