Numotion to Distribute Multisport Wheelchairs

July 16, 2018 by Laurie Watanabe

Numotion has signed an exclusive deal to distribute Motivation Multisport wheelchairs in the United States.

As its name suggests, Multisport wheelchairs can be used to play several court-based wheelchair sports, including basketball, rugby, badminton, tennis, softball, baseball and lacrosse. The chairs are adjustable to fit wheelchair users of different sizes, and to play different sports — for example, the toe guard can be used on the Multisport chair to play basketball or rugby, but it can be removed for playing tennis. Quick-release wheels make the chairs easier and quicker to store or transport.

The Multisport’s adjustability also means it can be used by more than one athlete. The chair is designed for entry-level use.

In a July 12 news announcement about the distributorship agreement, Numotion’s Senior VP of Sales, John Pryles, said, “We are excited about this high-quality, affordable option that will allow wheelchair users to participate in a variety of sports, play and exercise — ultimately promoting better health and wellness.”

Numotion will sell the Multisport and Multisport Junior, each available in multiple sizes, on its retail ShopNumotion.com Web site. Discounts are available for orders that include 10 or more Multisport chairs.

The Multisport wheelchair is manufactured by the Motivation Charitable Trust, which was founded in 1989 by David Constantine and Simon Grue, design students at the Royal College of Art in London. Constantine — who sustained a C4-5 spinal cord injury as a college student studying in Australia — and Grue created Motivation after winning a design contest for a wheelchair that would be suitable for use in developing nations.

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Numotion as it means that more people can begin to access grassroots sport,” Constantine said in the news announcement. “At Motivation we know how incredibly empowering sport can be, helping to build confidence and self-esteem. It’s also a fantastic way of breaking down barriers and challenging stigmas, and with these wheelchairs everyone can compete on a level playing field.”
