Permobil has introduced an all-new, compact mid-wheel-drive power wheelchair at the REHACARE rehabilitation trade fair in Düsseldorf.
The M4 Nexa was “designed to accommodate a broader range of users, including smaller individuals, while delivering exceptional maneuverability, intelligent connectivity, and greater access to everyday life without compromising the advanced seating functions they depend on,” Permobil said in a Sept. 23 press release.
Seat widths for the M4 Nexa start at 12 inches (30 cm), with a seat width range up to 22 inches (56 cm). The power chair’s power seating capabilities include posterior and anterior tilt, recline, elevating legrests, and seat elevation.

M4 Nexa offers a 15-inch (38 cm) seat-to-floor height with anterior tilt to facilitate transfers and access to standard-height tables. Seat depths range from 10 to 22 inches (25 to 56 cm).
The power base measures 21.5 inches wide (54 cm wide) and 33.5 inches long (85 cm long), with a 21.1-inch turning radius (54 cm).
An adjustable and modular seating design was created to adapt as riders’ needs change.
“The seating system enables adjustment of seat width, seat depth, foot supports and arm supports using just two Allen keys, with most adjustments possible while the user remains seated,” Permobil said. “Integration with Permobil’s Comfort and ROHO seating portfolio, combined with compatibility across a wide range of positioning components, gives flexibility to tailor and refine each setup.”
Permobil said the M4 Nexa “will be introduced in phases” in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and in the Americas starting Nov. 1.
In the United States, the M4 Nexa’s rollout will start with Veterans Affairs medical centers “following anticipated FDA 510(k) clearance in early October 2026,” the manufacturer said. “Full commercial availability in the United States and Canada is planned for January 2027, subject to regulatory and market access requirements.”
Permobil will launch the new power chair in Europe starting with Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Ireland, “with additional European and distributor markets to follow throughout 2027.” The M4 Nexa launches in Australia on Nov. 1, with a New Zealand launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. The manufacturer expects to launch in Japan in late 2027, with exact timing subject to regulatory approval.
The new power chair is part of the manufacturer’s Permobil Connect system, “enabling proactive service support, remote diagnostics, configuration and troubleshooting from day one.”
“Innovation at Permobil starts with understanding what individuals need to live a life with fewer constraints,” Chuck Witkowski, president and CEO of Permobil, said in the announcement. “While other compact power wheelchairs ask the user to make compromises, our team sought to provide best-in-class maneuverability without sacrificing the performance, stability and driving characteristics riders rely upon.”
