Permobil has released a firmware/software update for its SmartDrive power-assist system for self-propelled manual wheelchairs.
In a July 31 announcement, the manufacturer said the update “is now available for download via the PushTracker mobile app or the SmartDrive MX2+ wearable apps.
“SmartDrive Firmware v3.3 introduces wire control detect and decreases the default power assist timeout. With this new update, it is recommended to update the PushTracker Mobile App and the SmartDrive MX2+ Wearable Apps via the app store to continue to get the latest firmware updates.”
In its demonstration video, Permobil said the update via the PushTracker app requires a Wi-Fi connection and should take less than 10 minutes.
The manufacturer added that additional product improvements would be announced later this year.
Based on the number of currently registered SmartDrive users (approximately 15,000), who are estimated to go through 1,800 propulsion cycles per day, Permobil believes the power-assist system saves wheelchair riders a total of more than 6.3 million pushes per day.
