Q’STRAINT Debuts All-in-One Wheelchair Securement Station

November 9, 2021 by Laurie Watanabe

Q’STRAINT has introduced an all-in-one wheelchair securement station — called the Q’STRAINT ONE — designed to facilitate the process of securing wheelchairs in transportation fleet vehicles.

In a Nov. 4 news announcement, Q’STRAINT explained, “Wheelchair securement operators face a common challenge: The nature of traditional four-point securement can be both complex and highly customized. In a transportation fleet, every vehicle could potentially have a different securement system, making the technical job of securing passengers even more difficult for the driver. Q’STRAINT ONE aims to address this issue by offering a way to standardize securement – we call this the ONE Approach.”

The new system, the manufacturer said, “standardizes and shortens the securement process to less than one minute” while eliminating “the areas of uncertainty in retractor positioning or the risk of mismatching tiedowns.”

Q’STRAINT noted that the ONE system was designed to fit into different vehicles while maximizing the space within the vehicle. “Q’STRAINT ONE is the first securement to fit within the vehicle’s subfloor,” the manufacturer said. “The entire system is enclosed within a compact platform, enabling an installation that is fast, easy, and limited to only six fasteners. It offers one of the strongest tie-down solutions available while still meeting ADA standards and reducing the total wheelchair position weight by 20 percent.”

The ONE system has been tested “to the higher loads of the WC18 standard with heavy, modern wheelchairs,” Q’STRAINT added.

Q’STRAINT introduced the system at the Community Transportation Association of America Expo in Richmond, Va., and the American Public Transportation Association’s TRANSform Conference & Expo in Orlando, Fla. Both events took place in early November.
