Research: Deep Tissue Injury Series Available As PDF

March 31, 2016 by Laurie Watanabe

The 2015-2016 Mobility Management series on pressure ulcers and deep tissue injury is now available as a single downloadable pdf.

The four-part series featured research by Amit Gefen, Ph.D., professor of biomedical engineering at Tel Aviv University, and Kara Kopplin, BSc, the senior director of efficacy and research for ROHO Inc.

The research examined how deep tissue injuries occur: under the skin, which makes them not easily detectable and not visible in the same way that pressure ulcers caused by ischemia often are.

The series also examined how scar tissue reacts to pressure, and how the physical makeup of spinal cord injury patients changes post injury. Those changes, such as the incursion of fat into muscle tissue, happen rapidly and can affect how well a wheelchair cushion is able to provide pressure relief.
