The Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) will offer its popular two-day course called Fundamentals in Assistive Technology twice this fall.
The course will be given in Fort Worth, Texas, Sept. 6-7, and at Medtrade in Atlanta, Oct. 18-19.
Peggy Barker, MS, ATP, and Michelle Lange, OTR, ABDA, ATP, will present the course in Fort Worth, while Glen Ashlock, MS, ATP, and Barbara Crane, MA, PT, ATP, will present the course in Atlanta.
RESNA describes the course as providing “an overview of numerous areas of assistive technology, and is designed to broaden the knowledge of AT providers. Multiple case studies are used to illustrate applications of principles and theories in assistive technology provision.”
“Fundamentals in Assistive Technology is not a prep course for the ATP, but many have found it helpful because it does provide an overview of all different aspects of AT, which is the general scope of the ATP exam as well,” says RESNA’s Andrea Van Hook, communications & marketing manager. “So people have found it a good course to take to freshen up on the other areas of AT that they don’t work in every day, and then do some additional studying in those areas to prepare for the exam. It is also a good, basic course to learn principles and theories of AT provision, such as the proper way to do an assessment, service delivery, etc.”
Topics covered during the course include features of mobility technologies, augmentative communication technologies, computer access technologies, electronic aids to daily living technologies, and sensory technologies.
